Dream Team defeats Denmark to qualify for semi-finals

Armed with six points a top Group B; the Dream Team played Denmark to an exciting football that left many nationals grinning from ear to ear.


Chelsea midfielder, Mikel Obi led by exampletoday, Saturday, August 13, 2016 as Nigeria’s Olympic Eagles Nigeria U-23 team defeated Denmark in the quarter-finals of the football event of Rio 2016 Olympic Games.


After finishing top of Group B beating Japan and Swedenbefore losing to Colombia, the Nigeria's U-23 team qualified for the Semi-Finals after ending Denmark's ambition in a 2-0 victory.


Armed with six points atop Group B; the Dream Team played Denmark to an exciting football that left many nationals grinning from ear to ear.

With high hopes of winning the match, midfielder and captain of the Dream Team, Mikel Obi opened the score line that etched the Denmark side out of the 2016 Rio Olympics.


It should be noted that Mikel had earlier boasted in a tweet several hours to the match saying “We believe. The last African team left at #Rio2016 – now we face the Danish Dynamite @DBUfodbold in the 1/4 finals.”


Mikel who didn’t carry the Nigeria flag at the opening ceremony as expected, registered his name on the sands of time with his brilliant goal in the first 45mins of play.
